Hasta La Vista, Baby!

It's over. I've finally decided to call it quits. No histrionics, no you-can't-fire-me-I-quit scene in office. Just a 3 minute phone call to the boss followed by an e-mail.

19 July, 2005

Dear Sir

I wish to resign from my post of Area Sales Manager, Delhi w.e.f. today.

I would like to be relieved at the earliest possible as stipulated by the terms of my appointment.

It has been a wonderful experience to have been associated with [The Company] for the last fourteen months. I am also grateful to all my colleagues for their support and guidance during this period that has contributed to my personal and professional development.

It has been a privilege to be a part of the North & East (and specifically Delhi) sales team under your leadership. I would like to wish you and all of [The Company] the very best for the times to come.

Thank you,

Yours sincerely,

Dude, this is big news. Good luck with whatever you're doing next, or with figuring out what you're doing next. Is this a prelude to a career change or is it just a switch of jobs within the industry? I always admire people who have the balls to quit when they want to, I tend to stick around and hope that things will improve. Sometimes they do and sometimes, they, well, don't. Keep us posted.

@ someol'guy: Thanks for the luck. Moving out of the industry itself (healthcare to banking). Understand your viewpoint - I stuck around waiting for things to improve. Wasn't to happen.

@ kots & vAgue: It's wierd 'coz I'm feeling good and bad at the same time. Good because I'm finally stepping over to the (apparently) greener grass on the other side. Bad, because I really love my workplace, the people (heck, even the cafeteria food) but it's just that I've had enough of my work.

@ pixel8: Trust me, it is the strangest feeling when the screen spells out "mail successfully sent to boss@company.com" - 'weird' is the word. All the best to you.

DUDE! Not you too! Nawt, nawt you too! Hell, how many are left over in their old jobs? not too many I am sure....
And I know what you might be going through. Poured my heart out in my Jan 17th blog post.....
And i will break your leg if you tell me you do not have another one in hand. I am sure you have thought long, and thought hard about it. Best of luck, pal.

@ sinfully pinstripe: Yep, have taken the plunge; fortunately, got an offer (banking - ref my previous comment) just as I felt I had crossed the threshold of tolerability(?) in my present job.

Operative word above is 'fortunately' coz I don't think I'd have had the balls to do what you did.
